The Southern Society for Clinical Investigation is dedicated to the advancement of medical research and the exchange of knowledge, information and ideas. Its members are committed to mentoring future generations of medical investigators and promoting careers in academic medicine.
The Southern Society for Clinical Investigation will be recognized as the premier regional society supporting the advancement of medical research by sponsoring an annual meeting, recognizing excellence in academic medicine, developing programs specifically to support young medical investigators, and publishing The American Journal of the Medical Sciences.

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences (AJMS), founded in 1820, is one of the oldest medical journals in the United States. The AJMS publishes, on a monthly basis, peer-reviewed articles in the field of internal medicine and its subspecialties.
The AJMS DetailsSSCI’s 2025 president is Dana V. Rizk, MD. Dr. Rizk has been a Fellow in the SSCI since June, 2012 and served as a Councilor from 2020 to 2024. She is a member of the Tinsley Harrison Scholars Committee, Chair of the Governance Committee, and Chair of the Program Committee.
The Fund for Academic Medicine (FAMe) was established to support trainees and junior faculty in internal medicine by promoting medical education, research, and other academic endeavors designed to advance health and health equality.
Academic leaders from 68 institutions in the Southeast and other regions have come together to work towards this goal.
