About Robert T. Means, MD
Dr. Robert T. Means, Jr. is Professor of Internal Medicine, Special Assistant to the President, and former Dean at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt and completed training in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine before returning to Vanderbilt for a fellowship in Hematology. Dr. Means is best known for his research into the pathogenesis, treatment, and diagnosis of disorders of red cell production and iron metabolism, which has been supported over the years by NIH, VA, and by industry. Prior to his recruitment to ETSU as Dean in 2014, he held faculty positions at Vanderbilt, the University of Cincinnati, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Means is a past president of SSCI, a current member of the Executive Advisory Committee, and the chronic presider at the annual Southern Blood Club dinner lecture.
